Question: “Where did you get the inspiration for your latest book, “Fireflies?”
“Oh, that’s a great question! You know, the inspiration for ‘Fireflies,’ actually comes from a very personal place. A few years back, I was living in a farmhouse in Northern Virginia, and that farmhouse became the backdrop for the setting in the book.
During our time there, my daughter, who was about 10 or 11 years old, had the strangest experiences. It was like something out of a novel itself! She kept seeing a shadow… a ghost, believe it or not, and it always appeared in her bedroom mirror. What made it even more intriguing was that she could only see the ghost as a reflection; it never showed itself to her directly.
Now, it wasn’t exactly a frightening experience for her, but it did raise some concerns. We even went so far as to consult a local paranormal investigator about the incidents. Interestingly, he also conducted ghost tours, much like the character in ‘Fireflies.’ It was through these real-life occurrences, the mysterious happenings in that farmhouse, that I drew a tremendous amount of inspiration for the book.
